Postgraduate study opportunities

After completing the Master of Arts degree, students can apply for the right to complete the Doctor of Philosophy degree, which is a postgraduate research degree. They usually apply for this right in the same discipline in which they received their Master’s degree.

The University of Helsinki Faculty of Arts is Finland’s leading centre of humanistic research. The Faculty has a strong research orientation, and its research represents the top level in many fields, both in Europe and internationally.

After completing the Master of Arts degree, students can, under certain conditions, apply for the right to complete supplementary studies and later, the right to complete non-degree studies. As a rule, they complete supplementary studies and non-degree studies in minor subjects that either were begun and terminated during their previous studies or are completely new.

After graduation, students can also study at the Open University or on the courses arranged by the University of Helsinki Centre for Continuing Education.
