Master of Arts

The scope of the Master of Arts degree is 120 credits. The degree contains the following studies:

  • advanced studies in the major subject (80–120 credits) and
  • if needed, studies in the minor subject and/or other studies to achieve the minimum credit requirements for the degree (120 cr).

The target duration of full-time studies leading to an MA degree is two years.
In their Master’s studies, students mainly focus on the major subject. During this stage, they deepen their knowledge of their chosen field through both studies and the writing of the Master’s thesis. The advanced studies in the major subject include professional skills courses, which are typically completed as practical training.

The Master’s degree can also contain minor subjects and other studies based on the student’s own interests.

Students complete their studies systematically. At the beginning of their Master’s studies, students prepare their first personal study plan (PSP). In this, they receive support especially from the staff of their own major subject. Guidance is also given at Faculty and University levels.
