Applying LUOVA membership

Ministry of Education and Culture funded PhD fellowships
In the period 2010-2013 six LUOVA students and in 2012-2015 another six LUOVA students hold a PhD position funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. These fellowships are advertised every second year and students are selected with an open call. LUOVA fellowships for 2012-2015 were decided on 17 November 2011. The next call for funded fellowships will open in autumn 2013.
The rest of the students hold a matching funds position. A matching funds student is a full LUOVA member but does not receive a salary from the doctoral programme. Matching funds students are funded by, for example, a salary paid by the supervisor or a personal grant paid by a private foundation.
You may apply matching funds membership if:
1. You begin to work on a doctoral thesis related to any of the fields covered by LUOVA, and are not a member of any other graduate school.
2. You are enrolled as a PhD student at one of the following departments:
- Department of Biosciences
- Department of Environmental Sciences
- Department of Forest Sciences
- Department of Agricultural Sciences
3. Your supervisor is one of LUOVA's supervisors.
Applying matching funds PhD positions
After you have agreed on a PhD project with one of LUOVA's supervisors and the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences or the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry has accepted you as a PhD student you may apply for a LUOVA matching funds position. First, familiarize yourself with LUOVA's code of practice, and then fill in this membership application form and attach a research plan to it. The preferable format of the research plan is pdf, the maximum lenght three pages and size 13 Mb.
Please also note that you may be a member of only one graduate school at a time!
The board of LUOVA will review all the membership applications four times a year few weeks after the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences has processed the postgraduate applications submitted to it. After a decicion has been made LUOVA coordinator will contact you.
Why to apply LUOVA membership?
As a member you'll get support from LUOVA's coordinator and your thesis advisory committee. You'll also have priority in enrolling on LUOVA courses and are eligible to apply LUOVA's travel funding.
