About the LUMA Centre

Finland's Science Education Centre LUMA was founded in December 2003 together with the following ten institutions: the Ministry of Education, the National Board of Education, three faculties of the University of Helsinki (Biosciences, Behavioural Sciences and Science), the City of Helsinki Education Department (which represents Finnish municipalities in the Centre) and industry organisations (the Economic Information Office, the Finnish Chemical Industry, the Finnish Forest Industries Federation, the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries).

From the 1st of January 2007 onwards, the Helsinki University of Technology has been part of the management team. The LUMA Centre was inaugurated on the 28th of February 2004.

The purpose of the LUMA Centre is to promote the learning, studying and teaching of natural science, mathematics, computer science and technology on all levels (University of Helsinki Strategy 2005).

The mission of the LUMA Centre is to support and to promote science education and lifelong learning and the practice of natural science, mathematics, computer science and technology by children and youngsters.
