The Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki is the leading Finnish institute of legal research and education. The mission of the faculty is to educate qualified, ethically responsible legal professionals for both the Finnish and international markets through internationally high quality research and research-based teaching.

There are two research institutes at the faculty. The Erik Castrén Institute of International Law and Human Rights headed by professor Martti Koskenniemi promotes research on human rights and new approaches in public international law. The Institute of International Economic Law (KATTI) focuses on high-quality research on the legal aspects of both European integration and international economic co-operation in general.

The faculty hosts also two Centers of Excellence: (CoE) Global Governance Research and (CoE) Foundations of European Law Polity Research; and several Graduate Schools like Law in a Changing World (LCW), Foundations of European Law and Innovation Incentives and the Regulatory Infrastructure (INNOCENT).
