Information Skills Training at Viikki Campus Library

Pursue your learning at the library!

The library offers information literacy training to support learning, teaching and research.

  • in all academic subjects
  • for the different stages of studies
  • to different personnel groups
  • in the library, in the departments or online

The goal of the training is to help with choosing information sources, to make information seeking and assessment more efficient, and to provide tools for information management.  The majority of the information literacy courses are designed and carried out in concert with subject teachers.  The training is designed to dovetail with departments’ introductory courses and Bachelor’s and Master’s seminars.  The courses can be implemented in a myriad of ways and can vary according to the academic subjects of each department.

Detailed information about courses is available on the training calendar. We hope you will find just the course you are looking for! You can also send us suggestions for courses.

Viikki Campus Library's user education services

The Library offers training in information retrieval to students and faculty at the Viikki campus in

In user education, we initiate the students into the information resources used by the library customers (databases, e-journals, e-books etc) and tools of managing electronic resources (reference management).

In academic studies and working life, good information acquisition and information technology skills enhance and speed up work, but also improve the quality of the results. If students have comprehensive information literacy skills, it means the degrees are competitive and of a high quality.

Information literacy entails the ability to recognise the need for information and to search, find, evaluate and use information in a critical and ethical manner.
