Wireless Mobile Services

Terkko's wireless mobile phone- and PDA-services can be used wirelessly with wireless HUPnet -connection in the library or almost anywhere with a mobile phone or PDA. With Terkko's mobile portal (www.terkko.helsinki.fi/english/mobile) our customers can use our wireless mobile services anywhere and anytime. Terkko Mobile supports almost any mobile device that can browse the Internet. Terkko's wireless mobile services work likely in the mobile phone if it has a color screen. Mobile Phones and PDAs

Mobile phone and PDA are micro-sized (very) personal computers. Mobile devices differ from conventional desktop pc mainly with their small displays and a tiny keyboards. The most common mobile operating systems are Palm webOS, Windows Mobile, Symbian OS, Android, iOS (Apple) and different Linux-distributions. The Palm OS and the Windows Mobile are the most common operating systems in the PDA-devices and the Symbian OS is the most popular mobile phone operating system.

Convergence occurs between PDA-devices and mobile phones. Different devices get characteristics from each other. There are PDA-devices, which can be used to make calls. There are also mobile phones that have personal information management(PIM) programs and can edit Word and Excel documents. Almost every new mobile phone or PDA can be used to browse web pages. Little by little mobile devices will also have a music/video player, (video)camera, GPS, (internet)radio and even (internet)TV.

One Terkko's client-PC is equipped with wireless Bluetooth- and infrared(IR) connectors, which can be used for example to download the results of medical database queries into mobile phone.
