Location and transport information
The Kumpula Campus Library is located in the Physicum building on the Kumpula Campus. The entrance to the library is on the second floor of the lobby.
Buses 55AK, 55K and 506 stop in front of the Physicum building. Other nearby bus and tram stops are located approximately 300 metres from the main entrance of the building. The walk to the library is uphill both along the Väinö Auerin katu and Pietari Kalmin katu streets. A steep pedestrian sand road with a railing runs up to the campus from Kustaa Vaasan katu.
Parking
The nearest parking facilities are in front of the building along Väinö Auerin katu and Gustaf Hällströmin katu. There are no spesific disabled parking bays.
It is possible to transport passengers to the front of the main entrance on Väinö Auerin katu. The stairs from Gustaf Hällströmin katu do not have a ramp.
Premises and getting around
There is direct ground-level access to the entrance of the Physicum building from Väinö Auerin katu. It may be difficult to enter through the two heavy doors. For assistance with the doors, visitors may call the lobby porter, tel. (09) 191 50722, or library information, tel. (09) 191 50881. There is a lift directly opposite the entrance. The entrance to the library is on the right when exiting the lift on the second floor.
The spacious premises of the library are spread over two floors, with an internal lift operating between them. The lift is next to the entrance.
An accessible toilet is located in the lobby of the Physicum building, to the left of the entrance, by the coat racks. In the library, the toilet is past the information desk and to the left past the glass bookcases.
Use of the collections and facilities
The second floor houses the library's information and lending services. Textbooks and other lendable material, as well as the self-service checkout and return desks, are on the second floor. Library terminals and a printer-copier are available on both floors. A photocopier without a printing function is also located in the reading room on the ground floor. Computers requiring University usernames are on normal-height desks on the ground floor. The second floor has one electrically adjustable desk.
If a customer cannot access the HELKA web services, he or she may renew library loans and reserve books via email, kumpula-library@helsinki.fi, or by phone, (09) 191 50881.
Customers may have their library cards marked for special services. The service is available from library information, tel. (09) 191 50881. Through this service, the customer can have books fetched from the shelves by members of staff and make reservations by phone. Reserved books may be retrieved with the customer’s library card or sent to the customer’s home address by mail.
The library staff will be happy to help anyone needing help with the collections, facilities or moving around the library building.
Using materials online
The NELLI portal offers one user interface with most of the e-material available at UH. It is possible for staff and students at the University of Helsinki to access the e-material offered by the UH libraries from outside the university network through the remote connection service in NELLI. HELKA is an open access online catalog of Helsinki University Library. Some textbooks are available as eBooks via HELKA.
