Presentation

The Department of Education is one of the five Departments of the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences. The Department was established in 1955, though, the first chair in education was established as early as 1852.

The Director of the Department is adjunct professor Marja Martikainen. The Steering Group of the Department is responsible for the Department's activities. The staff of the Department consists of approximately 40 permanent employees and 20-40 researchers and research assistants employed with other resources.

Center for Research on Activity, Development and Learning (CRADLE), which conducts research in work, technology and organizations going through transformations, is also part of the Department. Approximately 40 persons work at the Centre.

The Centre for Research and Development of Higher Education offers e.q. courses in university pedagogy at the University of Helsinki.
