Services offered by Language Services

Our educational services include:

  • consultation
  • needs analysis
  • planning of training
  • tailor-made training
  • online course monitoring (monitoring course contents and attendance)
  • learning path, if so agreed
  • course report
  • course certificates with credit marking

We offer training in the form of private tutoring, pair tutoring and instruction for groups. The minimum time per meeting is two lessons; the length of one lesson is 45 minutes. Lessons can be held once a week or more intensively in periods of half a day or a whole day. Normally, courses are held on company premises, but instruction can also take place at the University of Helsinki or elsewhere, according to the wishes of the customer.

The recommended size for teaching groups ranges from three to ten participants. The starting point in forming a teaching group is to create a homogeneous group in terms of skill level and learning needs.

Quality assurance

We strive to assure the quality of our operations through the following measures:

  1. Placement testing and needs analysis
    • Before courses begin, the skill levels, learning needs and wishes of the participants are surveyed using a needs analysis form (available online).
    • Placement testing ensures homogeneous groups and instruction at the appropriate level. Testing covers both oral and written skills.
  2. Learning materials
    • Learning materials are compiled on an individual basis to include authentic material used by the participants in their work as well as other materials (text books, web-based materials) according to the wishes and needs of the participants.
  3. Teaching methods
    • Our teaching philosophy is based on the constructivist learning model. Teachers choose the methods to be used to suit the needs of the teaching groups/individual learners; a communicative approach is supplemented by other methods suitable for groups/individuals that encourage active participation and enhance target-oriented learning, genuine communication and positive learning experiences.
  4. Course feedback
    • At the end of a course, all participants are asked to provide written feedback; for longer courses, feedback is also collected mid-way through the course.
    • A summary of the feedback will be submitted to the customer’s contact person.
  5. Course reports
    • The course report contains a summary of the attendance statistics, the course contents and course feedback.
    • The course report appendices include an attendance form, learning paths (if so agreed), course feedback forms and course certificates for the participants.
