ALMS Skills Support Groups
As part of your individual ALMS programme you will be able to join
our Skills Support Groups. Each group focuses on a particular area
of language skills and is mediated by an ALMS teacher. Together
you plan the content and schedule of your group. Some groups meet
weekly, others only a few times, depending on the focus of the group.
On average, a student will do about 20 hours of work for a Support
Skills Group, which includes both meetings and work done elsewhere.
The Skills Support Groups that are usually set up are as follows,
but this varies from term to term, depending on the needs and wishes
of the students:
Conversation, Cross-cultural Discussion, Academic Discussion,
Presentation skills, Drama, Easy Talk, Practical Writing, Academic
Writing, Creative Writing, Writing for Learning, Integrated Reading/
Writing/Discussion, Academic Reading.
The schedule of current Skills Support Groups can be found below
as a pdf file.
In addition to the Skills Support Groups, students are also able
to set up their own groups, known as Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Groups,
which have their own focus and plan. Examples of such groups would
be a DIY Film Group, DIY Literature Group, DIY Viikki Group, DIY
Psychology Group, DIY History Group, etc.
