Equal access - Meilahti

Library in the Hospital Area

Meilahti Campus Library is in Meilahti hospital area, at Haartmaninkatu 4, close to the corner of Tukholmankatu (next to the Biomedicum building).

Transport

Meilahti Campus Library is located along several public transport routes. Many buses stop on Haartmaninkatu and Tukholmankatu. Of these, lines 14, 14B, 18, 53, 58, 58B, 194 and 503 are operated exclusively with low-floor buses.

The nearest accessible parking space is behind the library building, with barrier-free access to the main entrance.

Entrance and premises

There are no steps to the entrance of the Meilahti Campus Library building, and no door sills on the floors. The customer areas and service desk on the second floor is accessible by a lift which can accommodate a wheelchair.

Guide and helper dogs are welcome in the library. 

Accessible toilets are located on the second floor auditorium lobby, near the lifts.

Services

When acquiring a HELKA library card, disabled customers can have their library cards marked for special services. In this case, the client can make reservations by telephone and have materials fetched from the shelves by library staff. Reserved books can be retrieved using the customer’s library card or sent to the customer’s home address by mail.

The service staff of Meilahti Campus Library provides expert information and assistance to disabled customers in all matters pertaining to the use of the library collections or information services.

Online services

The computer terminals of Meilahti Campus Library have access to the online university services available to library patrons and all the digital information services of the library. If a customer does not have a personal university username, a temporary username can be granted from the library services desk. The temporary username will function for the day it is granted.

Computer terminals are located on desks of different heights, and can be used either while seated or standing. The text on the screens can be made larger using the keyboards.
