Borrow, Renew, Request
To borrow books from the library you need a Helsinki University Library Helka card. You can get a library card from the library customer service by presenting an official ID card. A card can be given to persons over the age of 15 who have a valid street address in Finland, with the exception of exchange students and researchers from abroad.
You can also order the Helka card in advance. The card will be available for pick-up after 2 working days in the Helsinki University Library location you choose. You will also need a Finnish social security number or a certificate of attendance from the Helsinki University.
A library card is personal and the holder is responsible for material borrowed with it. Customers commit to following the rules of all Helka libraries with their signature.
Update your contact details in Helka-database and notify the library immediately if you lose your card. A small fee will be charged for the issuing of a new library card.
If you need assistance with accessing the library services you may get your card marked for special services. In that case books are collected for you from the shelf and you may do requests over the telephone.
How to Access E-Resources?
To access the e-resources you need a user account for the university IT systems. All individuals who are either employed by the university or registered for attendance at the university are granted access rights to the systems.
Other customers have right to use the e-resources at the library premises.
