Research Data Management

Management of research data

The management of research data refers to creating and storing research data and related descriptive metadata so as to preserve the usability and reliability of the material, taking into account confidentiality and data protection issues throughout the lifespan of the data.

The management of research materials should be a priority throughout the research process. Good data management facilitates collaboration within the research group, saves time and enables the further use of the materials. Several research funding providers also require systematic data management.

University of Helsinki research data policy defines high-level principles regarding the collection, storing, use, and management of research data. Library´s Research Data Management -guide offers for researchers practical information about the topic.
