Operational Control

Helsinki University Library is an independent institute of the university that has its own regulations.

The operation of the library is managed by University Librarian, Ph.D. Kimmo Tuominen with the support of the Board.

The library operation is steered by the strategy of the University of Helsinki and the library's target programme based on it. Based on the target programme, the library annually composes an operating plan.

The task of the Board of the library is, led by its Chairperson and in co-operation with the University Librarian, to develop the library and information services of Helsinki University Library and the operation of the library as a whole according to the university's operational and financial objectives and the target programme of the library.

The Board functions as an expert panel for the library and information field in the University of Helsinki.

Advisory Boards

The library has an advisory board on each campus, the members of which represent the staff and students of the faculties and independent institutes of the campus, library staff, and partners of the university. The advisory boards can establish the necessary number of permanent or temporary working groups to support their operation.

The University Librarian as the presenter of the Board requests the relevant parties to make their propositions of advisory board members that represent them.

Student Committee

The task of the library's Student Committee is to function as a discussion and co-operation forum for students and the library and participate in developing the services of the library.
