Research in the field of analytical chemistry is focused on the development of separation techniques, e.g. multidimensional chromatographic techniques, capillary electromigration techniques, and field flow fractionation, for the solution of analytical problems. Special emphasis is put on theoretical, methodological and technical challenges. One important goal is the development of environmentally friendly analytical methods for both sample pretreatment and analysis. Often this requires construction of totally new analytical instrumentation, such as multidimensional techniques. Besides those projects carried out by the Laboratory alone, there is considerable co-operation with industry and outside research institutes. In all our research projects, green chemistry approach is taken into consideration. Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry belongs to the the ‘Centre of Excellence in Atmospheric Science – From Molecular and Biological processes to The Global Climate ( ATM), The Research Unit leader is Academy Professor Markku Kulmala from Department of Physical Sciences.
