The conference banquet (at 19:00 on Thursday 24.8) will take place at Ravintola Saaristo / Klippan, on a small island right in the Helsinki harbour. We will reach the island by boat service from the pier located just south of the Olympiaterminaali (Olympia Ferry Terminal).

Our banquet speaker will be Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tim Softley (University of Birmingham, UK).

Directions: Conference venue to Ravintola Saaristo

It is possible to walk from the conference venue to the boat landing. It is about 1.6 km (20 minutes walk) in a southerly direction from the University area, passing by the Helsinki Lutheran Cathedral at Senaatintori (Senate Square) and government buildings and the touristic Eteläsatama (South Harbour) area, then walking along the seashore past the Olympiaterminaali (Olympia Ferry Terminal), a pleasant walk with lots of sights. Alternatively, one can take a taxi (e.g., from the taxi rank in front of the Cathedral or by call, e.g., TAKSIHELSINKI, +358 (0)100 0700).

If one selects Helsinki public transport (hsl.fi), then a tram is best. From the conference venue, walk about 1.5 blocks south to Aleksanterinkatu (Alexander Street) near but just before arriving at Senaatintori (Senate Square). From Aleksanterinkatu, near building 32-34, at the Senaatintori stop, one can take the #2 tram (direction: Olympiaterminaali) or the #1A tram (direction: Eira). Get off at the Olympilaituri stop, then walk a few hundred meters further south to the pier and take the pre-arranged boat to the adjacent island (Luoto Klippan). For other journeys, see Google Maps or Helsinki public transport (hsl.fi).
