The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry promotes the sustainable use of natural resources and human well-being through scientific research and research-based teaching. The Faculty’s key areas of education and research include food science, consumer science, agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences and biotechnology. The Faculty has 3,200 degree students and employs 500 experts in the field.  At the beginning of 2010 the Faculty will be reorganised such that the present nine departments will merge to form four new departments, namely the Department of Food and Environmental Sciences, the Department of Agricultural Sciences, the Department of Forest Sciences and the Department of Economics and Management.

 

The Department of Economics and Management at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Helsinki invites applications for a  

Professorship in the Economics of Baltic Sea Protection

The field of the professorship has been specified as the economics of Baltic Sea protection, particularly control policies for reducing nutrient loads from non-point and point sources as well as international agreements and instruments.

The duties of a professor include conducting and supervising scientific research, following developments in the field, examining theses and attending to duties specified in Section 19, Sub-section 1 of the Decree on the Qualification Requirements and Duties of Staff in Institutions of Higher Education (Decree No 309/1993).

The above Decree provides for the qualification requirements and the Finnish and Swedish language requirement for professorships.

The salary for the present post will be based on levels 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance.

The new Universities Act will enter into force on 1 January 2010. Consequently, permanent and fixed-term public service employment relationships at universities will be abolished on 31 December 2009 and all personnel will be employed on a contractual basis as of 1 January 2010.
