The Department of Production Animal Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Helsinki invites applications for a  

Professorship in Domestic Animal Reproduction

The field of the professorship is pig reproduction. The field covers the physiology and endocrinology of pig reproduction as well as their disorders and reproductive illnesses.

The appointee will be responsible for research, scientific development, undergraduate instruction, clinical instruction and research education in the field as well as for specialist training. Successful completion of the duties of the post requires profound competence in individual and farm-level clinical problems related to pig reproduction. Such competence can be demonstrated through research activities in the field and an applicable Finnish or international specialist degree.

The Decree on the Qualification Requirements and Duties of Staff in Institutions of Higher Education (309/1993) provides for the qualification requirements and the Finnish and Swedish language requirement for professorships.

The salary for the present post will be based on levels 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance.

The new Universities Act will enter into force on 1 January 2010. Consequently, permanent and fixed-term public service employment relationships at universities will be abolished on 31 December 2009 and all personnel will be employed on a contractual basis as of 1 January 2010.
