The University of Helsinki is a pioneer in equality issues, contributing to an atmosphere that appreciates diversity and differences. Equality is a resource that enriches university activities and creates well-being.
The purpose of equality activities at the University of Helsinki is to promote equality between people and prevent all discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, ethnic origin, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, disability or other factor.
The promotion of equality concerns every member of the University community. It should be a part of all decision-making and preparation of University matters. The University has an Equality Committee, which monitors the development of equality at the University and promotes its realisation together with the Equality Adviser. The Committee can take the initiative in equality issues and inform about its activities.
The University has an Equality Adviser, who serves as the contact for the University's equality network, provides advice, information and education on equality issues, develops the university's equality activities and produces reports on equality issues.
