Working at the university of Helsinki

The University of Helsinki is one of the leading research universities in the world today, as well as the oldest and most diversified university in Finland. It consists of a total of eleven faculties spread over four campuses. The university has 35,000 degree students and 8,000 employees. Annually, 5,000 degrees are completed at the university; 470 of them are Doctoral degrees.
The adult education is attended by 60,000 mature students annually. We are focused on high-end academic research and researcher education. Academic research forms the basis for our teaching. Our work serves to support the human thirst for knowledge and need for improvement as well as social development and commerce. We have extensive international networks and some 80 intercontinental collaboration agreements with other universities.
Salaries
We employ a salary system where the salary is based on the demands level of the duties and on personal performance. The goal of this salary system is to achieve fair and motivating salaries that will support our competitiveness as employer and the further development of the staff, while encouraging employees, including managers and supervisors, to strive for more challenging duties and better performance.
Improvement of the work community
We strive to develop our work community into an innovative, motivating and rewarding environment for work and learning, where the creativity of its members is highlighted and where a good staff policy that promotes equality between employees is implemented. We offer our employees quality education to improve their expertise.
As a work community, we are committed to introducing new employees both into their duties and their unit, as well as integrating them into the university community as a whole. Regularly held development talks and the meetings held by each work unit create the basis for continuous development of staff and work community.
Well-being at Work
There are many ways in which we maintain the well-being of our employees. We are committed to extensive safety measures, and we offer our employees preventive health care. There are also varied sports and exercise services for the staff.
