The 8th International Summer School of IIAA "Everyday Aesthetics" was held in Messilä June 15 – 18, 2008. (40 participants.) Thank you all for succesful seminar days.

2007

28.9. IIAA had own table in Researchers' Night in Lahti Congress Centre Fellmanni where you could buy books and take part in "Environmental Aesthetical Photograph Orienteering" close by Fellmanni.

Ympäristö täynnä tarinoita ("Environment thick with Stories") - 2nd Autumn Seminar of Applied Environmental Aesthetics was held in September 13.-14. in Lahti University Consortium's lecture room (Saimaankatu 14, 2nd floor). Seminar language is Finnish. More information in Finnish on page "Tapahtumat".

2006

2006 major event Urban Spaces, Everyday Experience, and Well-Being - VII International Summer School of Applied Aesthetics was organised in co-operation with Lahti University of Applied Sciences and University of Helsinki, and it was held in Lahti, Mukkula Manor in June 19-21 (34 participants; list of names is available here). Schools' keynote speakers were Kenneth Olwig (SLU-Alnarp, SWE), Warwick Fox (UCLAN, UK), Arnold Berleant (USA), Susanna Lehvävirta (U. of Helsinki, FIN) and Timo Kopomaa (U. of Helsinki, FIN). IIAA would like to heartly acknowledge both keynote speakers and all other participants for great presentations and illuminating discussions!
Programme included in addition a guided cruise to Lake Vesijärvi and walking tour to Lanu Statue Park, and IIAA would like to thank too our guides Kiiki Vakkilainen (U. of Helsinki), Eeva Aarrevaara (Lahti University of Applied Sciences); Antti Hovi (City of Lahti) and Petra Haikonen (Lahti University of Applied Sciences). A book by IIAA Paradokseja paratiiseissa (”Paradoxes in Paradises”, eds. Haapala, Arto & Mia Kunnaskari) was published 19th of June in IIAA Reports (n:o 4).

Web course Introduction to Environmental Aesthetics was planned and organised in collaboration with IIAA and University of Helsinki for ELMO Project (Virtual Education and Learning Materials of Environmental Issues Project; Lahti University of Applied Sciences) . MA Mia Kunnaskari acted as content provider and web lecturer, and 21 students from University of Helsinki and Lahti University of Applied Sciences completed it succesfully during the spring season 2006.

A book by IIAA Mobiiliestetiikka (”Mobile Aesthetics”, eds. Naukkarinen, Ossi & Arto Haapala) was published 10th of February in IIAA Reports (n:o 3).

2005

29.-30.9 Paradokseja paratiiseissa ("Paradoxes in Paradises") - 1st Autumn Seminar of Applied Environmental Aesthetics, Lahti. Special guest and keynote speaker: Professor Stephanie Ross(University of St. Louis - Missouri, USA).

23.9. IIAA had open doors in Researchers' Night and Mia Kunnaskari gave a lecture by the title "Aesthetics of Urban Nature" in Lahti University Consortium.

The brand new web site of IIAA was published in August. The design, that has something new and something old, is planned by Iiris Konttinen.

2004

In 2004 the Association of the IIAA re-organised activities of the Institute and decided that in the future the Institute will focus on environmental aesthetics, which has always been a central part in the work of Institute. The city of Lahti is an excellent place to develop humanistic environmental research, since urban and environmental research are strongly developed in Lahti, and Lahti and its environs offer many interesting cases.

2003

In 2003 the Institute didn't organise any activities but the Association of the IIAA concentrated on planning the future of the Institute.

Photo Competition "The Most Beautiful Landscape in Päijät-Häme" was held in co-operation with local newspaper Etelä-Suomen Sanomat and Eiri Oy. Finnish seminar anthology Mäkihypyn muoto-oppi ja muita kirjoituksia populaaritaiteesta (eds. Immonen, Olli and Mykkänen, Jouko) was published. The anthology includes writings of popular culture. Also IIAA Newsletter numbers 1 and 2 were published.

The first year included especially project planning, and the Institute was organising lectures and seminars. The International Advisory Board, Professor Arnold Berleant as a president, started its work. IIAA's sign, planned by Janne Uotila (Lahti Polytechnic) won the first price, Prix d'Or, in Tolouse cultural forum, France.

1993

Association for the International Institute of Applied Aestehics (IIAA) was founded in 10th of June 1993 by the City of Lahti, University of Helsinki, Päijät-Häme Association for Higher Education and Finnish Society for Aesthetics.
