Regular Debating

...and as my team and I have shown you, the Government's case has more holes in it than my socks do. I beg you to oppose the motion!

The audience is motionless for one long second, and then erupts into applause. The debate is over. Fast paced, eloquent and logical the speaker has just dissected his adversaries' arguments with wit and humour. Strike, parry, counter strike, debating is fencing with words.

Debating is a good way to develop your skills in public speaking, argumentation, teamwork and strategy. It helps you to learn to construct arguments and to think quickly on your feet whilst defending them. It also teaches you how to listen carefully to what others say and structure their ideas in your head - even when they have not structured them in theirs!

We invite you to join us at our regular weekly debates and to participate in the events and tournaments we organise. We welcome both experienced ebaters and first-timers to come and train with us. Explore our Web pages to learn more or, even better, contact us and join our mailing list. You will soon discover that debating is fun as well as useful!

More information of the dates and venues of the regular debates can be found in the Event Calendar.
