University Apartments

The University of Helsinki rents about 250 apartments to its incoming staff. Most of the apartments are located in Helsinki close to transportation routes and the rents are quite reasonable. Some apartments are also located at the University’s research stations.

Newest addition to the University's housing services are the Töölö Towers designed to accommodate incoming researchers and other guests from one week to six months. More detailed information is available via following link.

All persons in an employment relationship with the University of Helsinki can apply for the apartments. Also persons working on grants and with Ph.D studies are qualified to apply for housing. All housing provided by the University is either in the form of entry-housing or short term in general. All staff members who have signed a work contract with the University can apply for an apartment and conclude a tenancy agreement valid for one year with the possibility of extension for a second year depending on availability. The idea of limiting the contract period to one year is due to high demand and the need of providing the possiblity of entry housing to wider range of Univesity staff. Only a small number of apartments become vacant each year and one should bear in mind that the demand for these properties is extremely high and the University cannot guarantee housing for its international staff.

Six University properties are presented briefly below. In addition, the University of Helsinki has several separate apartments in various parts of Helsinki.
