Finding cures for animal diseases

For Deepa Shekrar, the University of Helsinki became her top choice after she familiarised herself with the research and teaching methods of the university through the university website. The research seemed to match her interests.

“I was looking for a Master’s Degree Programme, and many of my friends had already started studying in Finland and recommended it. I checked out the university’s website, and I liked what I saw.” According to Deepa, everyone has been very accommodating during her time in Finland, and she is enjoying every second of the university life.

“The university and the university personnel have given me so much more than I initially expected. My programme’s coordinators have been very helpful; studying at the university is a really great experience.”

Deepa is specialising in the more specific field of animal biotechnology, which largely aims at researching diseases of animals and finding cures for them. During this summer she is also doing an internship at the university.

“I believe that anyone thinking about coming here should come. The teaching is at a top level, the research is up to the mark and it matches the needs and ambitions of biotechnology students. If I get a chance to do my PhD here, I’ll definitely stay.”
