International Affairs and Services of the University of Helsinki
Like in other universities, the internationalisation processes at the University of Helsinki have been very rapid and thorough. Excellent research has always been international, but today the influence of the international academic community is felt in all parts and within all tasks of the organization.
The number of foreign students has grown to close to 2500 degree seeking students and close to 1200 exchange students per year. Most students choose the University of Helsinki because they want to study at a multidisciplinary university of top quality. In order to attract good students from abroad the University offers teaching in English in all faculties. The Bologna structure of education has also enabled us to develop complete Master programs in English; within the next years we will have 30 such programs running.
In most assessments our university is ranked as one of the ten best research universities in Europe. This offers a good platform for research based teaching and active networking with other top universities. The University is a founding member of The League of European Research Universities (LERU). Our cooperation agreements reach all parts of the world.
Internationalization is an important element in the University strategy for the next years. We wish to double our numbers of foreign students and considerably increase the number of foreign professors, teachers and researchers. Various measures, including establishing an International Admissions Office and improving international recruitment on all levels, are taken to achieve these goals.
The work is coordinated by International Affairs. These pages contain materials of interest for foreign students, teachers and researchers. You are welcome to study the materials, and, in case you have not done so already, to visit our University.
