LUMA Fund
Our aim is to get children and youth inspired by LUMA subjects and technology. LUMA is an abbreviation from the Finnish words “luonnontieteet” i.e. natural sciences and “matematiikka”, mathematics. LUMA Fund was established to improve the possibilities to motivate children and youth into studying these subjects at school and during their spare time. Extra funding is needed for the development and expanding of LUMA activities, and research linked to it in Finland and internationally. LUMA Fund is part of the Mathematics and Science Fund of the University of Helsinki.
By donating, you will support the operations of National LUMA Centre. Together with various partners, the Centre supports and enhances the teaching and learning of natural sciences, mathematics and technology from primary to higher levels of education. LUMA Centre also supports children and youth’s extra-curricular activities related to natural sciences, mathematics and technology.
By donating to LUMA Fund, you will make possible, for example:
Science clubs for children
By donating 50 euros, you will pay for a six-week science club for one child. The clubs motivate and activate children into natural sciences, mathematics, computer sciences, and technology. .Science camps for children and youth
By donating 100 euros, you will provide one child or youth with an opportunity to take part in a five-day science camp that offers active experiences in authentic research environment.LUMA Research
The development of LUMA activities is based on the latest research. We need smaller and larger donations to fund new educational innovations and to support young researchers in particular.
New Learning Environments
LUMA Centre is a pioneer in the development of new and inspiring learning environments. Examples of successful and motivating learning environments include: mathematics class Origo, physics laboratory F2K, ChemistryLab Gadolin and ICT class Linkki together with our virtual environments Jippo, Kreativ, Luova ja MyScience. To increase these activities and better utilize modern technology continuous development is needed.
