Bilingual University

University of Helsinki is bilingual by law. University offers education in Swedish in a variety of subjects. Students studying subjects with no Swedish teaching and with Swedish as their first language are entitled to write exams and course work in Swedish although teaching would be in Finnish.
University of Helsinki is the only university in Finland who is responsible for education in Swedish in the fields of Law, Medicine, Social Work, Social Psychology, Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy and Geography. University is also the only university in Finland who offers academic education in Journalism in Swedish.

We at the Swedish Affairs at the university’s Central Administration co-ordinate and develop university’s bilingualism. This means that we create new initiatives to enhance university’s bilingual activities and promote bilingual interaction with the society.

Every campus have their own Swedish campus coordinator who co-ordinate and develop bilingualism at the university's four campuses: Centrumcampus, Campus Kumpula and Viikki and Campus Meilahti.
