Mobile facility for exploring biogenic aerosols at Hyytiälä

A mobile facility of the U.S. Department of Energy was set up on the front yard of Hyytiälä in order to participate in the BAECC campaign (BAECC, Biogenic Aerosols – Effects on Clouds and Climate). BAECC will continue until the autumn of 2014 in collaboration with Finnish scientists to measure biogenic aerosols emitted from forests in order to determine their effects on clouds, precipitation, and climate. Scientists will use the data collected during BAECC and combine it with previous observations made during the past 18 years at the SMEAR II station at Hyytiälä. The Finnish collaborators include the University of Helsinki, University of Eastern Finland, and Finnish Meteorological Institute. Some European research groups will also participate.
