| Social programme and toursA number of social events and tours will be organised to make your stay in Helsinki enjoyable. Since the number of participants for some of the events is limited, you are kindly asked to make your reservation in advance on the registration form. Wednesday, May 10 Day Cruise to Tallinn, Estonia at 10.00 - 19.00 This tour will take you to the medieval Hansa town Tallinn, the capital and cultural centre of Estonia. In the morning, departure by catamaran from Helsinki to Tallinn. Your sightseeing tour in Tallinn includes the most interesting sights of the city, e.g. the Toompean Hill, the Cathedral, and the charming Old Town. Lunch in a local restaurant is included. Price: EUR 120 / person The price includes boat tickets Helsinki-Tallinn-Helsinki, transportation, sightseeing tour and lunch in Tallinn as well as an English speaking local guide. A valid passport is required (for the citizens of the EU countries an official identification card with photo is sufficient). A visa is required for citizens of some countries. Kindly contact your nearest Estonian embassy or consulate for further information. If you need a visa for Finland and intend to participate in the cruise to Tallinn, please note that a multiple visa for Finland is required for entering Finland after the tour.
Helsinki City Sightseeing Tour at 16.30 – 18.30 You will be met by your English speaking guide at the Senate Square. A comprehensive basic city tour takes in the most important and interesting parts of Helsinki such as the historical centre and the diplomatic quarters, the Presidential Palace, City Hall, the Parliament building, Finlandia Hall and the Opera House. Stops at Senate Square, the Sibelius Monument and, when possible, Temppeliaukio Rock Church. Duration of the tour is 2 hours. The tour ends at the Senate Square next to the Conference Venue. Welcome Reception at 19.00 All registered participants are cordially invited to a welcome reception offered by the Rector of the University of Helsinki at the conference site. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
Thursday, May 11 Helsinki City Reception at 19.00 The City of Helsinki has the pleasure to invite the participants with their registered accompanying persons to a cocktail reception taking place at the City Hall, address Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13.
Saturday, May 13 Conference Dinner at 19.00 The Conference Dinner will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and includes a three course dinner with wine, entertainment and dancing. Address: Royal Restaurant (Banquet Hall), Crowne Plaza Hotel, Mannerheimintie 50 Price: EUR 60 per person An ethnomusic trio Suo ('The Marshland') will sing the guests welcome to the dinner by performing archaic Finnish Kalevala poetry songs accompanied by both modern and traditional instruments, and after a three-course meal (see the menu alternatives below), dance music will be played by Kaipuun Kukkatarha ('The Orchard of Longing'). These five female musicians can, according to their own words, meet the highest standards not only musically but also aesthetically, since "natural grace is our trademark".
