Genre and Interpretation

GENRE AND INTERPRETATION is an international  conference on literary studies to be held at the University of Helsinki on 10–12 June 2009. The conference is devoted to the study of genre, genre theory and their convolute relations with questions of interpretation. The conference is co-organized by the Finnish Graduate School for Literary Studies and the Finnish Literary Research Society. The Finnish Graduate School for Literary Studies is a member of the international graduate school network PhD-Net, administrated by the Justus Liebig University of Giessen, Germany. We welcome scholars and students  from other PhD-Net partner universities and from all universities in Finland and abroad to participate in the discussion and conference activities.

The keynote speakers are Professor Brian McHale (Ohio State University), Professor Ansgar Nünning (Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen), Professor Vera Nünning (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg), and Professor Bo Pettersson (University of Helsinki).

The workshops (for a detailed list, see Programme) offer theoretical approaches and analytical readings related to genre and interpretation. Since Genre and Interpretation is also the 2009 annual seminar of the Finnish Literary Research Society, some of the presentations and workshops will be in Finnish.
