Staff Information

Skk0200 Intermediate Module (25 points)

The Intermediate Module improves language skills and expands and deepens knowledge of Finnish language, society and culture, in courses of the student’s own choice. The Intermediate Module may comprise studies in Finnish organized by the Department of Finnish as well as studies in other fields.

Skk0210 Language Skills II (5 points)

The Language Skills II unit aims to expand language skills, so that students will be able to read and write academic texts in Finnish and will have a good command of Finnish orthography. This unit may incorporate courses on academic writing, translation, grammar, specialized vocabulary and texts.

Skk0220 Finnish phonology, morphology and word formation (5 points)

This unit provides an overview of the structure of Finnish. Studies in phonology, morphology and word formation offer basic information on the phonology, inflection and word formation.

Skk0250 Finnish Literature 2 (4 points)
The studies offer an introduction to Finnish literature and the basic concepts of literary studies. In addition, students must independently study some of the classics and other work from various periods and genres in Finnish literature.

Skk0280 Proseminar and bachelor’s essay (10 points)
In the proseminar, students acquire practical experience in writing an academic paper in Finnish. The topics of the papers are discussed in class and students act as opponents of each other’s work. Students are required to attend the proseminar sessions and write a proseminar paper. The proseminar paper of Finnish majors is accepted as a Bachelor’s thesis.
