The North American Studies Program at the University of Helsinki Renvall Institute is proud to organize the Inaugural of the 25th Bicentennial Professor of American Studies and the Eighth Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference. The Biennial Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference on North American Studies has been organized on even-numbered years since 1986. It is one of the largest conferences in Europe for American and Canadian Studies. This year the Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference is built around the theme of Roots and Renewals. The title symbolizes our celebration of 25 years of Bicentennial visiting professorship of American Studies at University of Helsinki. To emphasize these roots, we have invited all our former Bicentennials to join us in the conference in the spirit of renewal for the new millennium. We asked each of them to give a topic proposal, and the call for proposals (ended 28th of April) was on these themes. The tentative workshops are titled:
