Minor Studies in Intercultural Encounters

Minor Studies in Intercultural Encounters is a 25 credit unit interdisciplinary programme. The Intercultural Encounters programmes at the University of Helsinki combine research done in Speech Communications, Anthropology, Social Psychology, Comparative Religion and Latin American Studies in order to provide students with tools to understand and manage the multifaceted nature of intercultural contact.

Objectives of Minor Studies

  • Obtain basic knowledge and understanding of the theories in intercultural encounters within different contexts
  • Development of personal cultural sensitivity
  • Help students to gain knowledge of the different job opportunities in the international fields and what kinds of skills are required for working with intercultural issues
  • Support students employability by developing their intercultural knowhow
