Research and Postgraduate Studies
Research at the Faculty of Arts is extensive: the research subjects vary from Assyriology to Film and television Studies. At the end of year 2010 there were 80 professors, 140 other teachers and an average of 200 researchers as well as about one thousand postgraduate students at the Faculty of Arts. 53 Doctor of Philosophy degrees were completed. It is especially because of its extent that the research at the Faculty of Arts helps to interpret the ever-complicating modern society. The globalisation requires deeper knowledge of foreign cultures. This has increased the importance the research at the Faculty of Arts has in the society. Also research of history has gained new kind of relevance in the modern society – history helps us to understand where we are coming from and where the roots of modern events lay. Research at the Faculty of Arts receives funding from several sources: research is done as a part of professional duties, within separately funded project, within graduate schools and within separate research units. The goal is that every instance that makes research work also gives instruction on its field of research. |
