The structure of the pages

The main section of the Levant internet course is the Lessons, which are arranged in three different ways (tematically, according to geographical area, and in historical periods). Most lesson relates to a theme, an area and a period, and it can be found through these different cathegories. The individual lessons are also listed in an index, in the index section.

A general introduction to the history and archaeology of Levant is found in the introduction section and it is adviceble to get aquainted with that part first to get a general view, as the lessons do not make up a continuous narrative, but present different aspects of society and research.

Inside a lesson there can be links to suitable examples and good material on other home pages on the internet. There are links to pictures, maps, animations and video clips illustrating the points given in a specific lesson. There are different icons for these different types of links. Each of these linked materials can also be found in the index section in the lists of pictures, maps, animations and links, respectively. The lessons also include information on further reading.

The following icons are used for indicating complementary material inside the text:

photos      video clips      maps      chronologies      related lessons      reference to further reading      internet links

The arrow pointing back leads from a special lesson back to a basic lesson or to the introductory section.

In the section 'case studies' are presented different projects or special studies, which are connected to the Levant area and illustrate different aspects of its history and archaeology.

The idea has been to keep the pages easy to read even from a slow computer. Therefore the links, pictures and animations are optional, if the reader for different reasons only wants to consentrate on the text. And for example, the video clips require that "Real player" is instolled in the computer you use, before they can be viewed. You can get the "Real player" program from internet, from the following adress: http://www.real.com/player/index.html.
