THE FINNISH SOCIETY FOR EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY
STUDIES
The objective of the Finnish Society for Eighteenth-Century
Studies is to create and promote contacts between Finnish scholars interested
in the eighteenth century. The Society has a nationwide organisation and
aims at uniting eighteenth-century scholars irrespective of their institutional
affiliation or academic discipline.
The Society supports and coordinates eighteenth-century
studies carried out in all areas of academic activity by organising seminars,
meetings and excursions and by creating and maintaining contacts among
Finnish scholars and between its members and members of the other national
societies for eighteenth-century studies. The activities of the society
focus primarily on the field of academic research yet its events may also
be made open to the general public.
The Society was founded on 3 April 2001. It applied the
membership of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies
- Société internationale d'études du dix-huitième
siècle (ISECS - SIEDS) in 2001 and was officially accepted as a
constituent society in 2003. ISECS is a joint organisation of approximately
thirty national societies for eighteenth-century studies. It has more
than 10,000 members worldwide.
