We care for the environment

The University of Helsinki is committed in promoting sustainable development. According to the University Strategy of 2010-2012, the university has a national, regional and global societal responsibility. This responsibility also encourages the university to enhance scientific environmental awareness. Through research, teaching and other activities the university promotes societal justice, welfare, learning and interaction between humans and nature.

The University of Helsinki is also committed to reduce its own environment load. The UH Center for Properties and Facilities coordinates and is responsible for the environmental actions of the university. In 2010 the WWF Green Office environmental management system was launched at the Viikki campus.

Helsinki University Centre for Environment, HENVI, carries out and coordinates environmental research and teaching. All faculties of the University of Helsinki are participating in the activities of HENVI. The aim of HENVI is to strengthen and enhance interdisciplinary research and teaching and to raise public awareness of important environmental issues.
