Research in Urban Geography

Research interests in Urban Geography are extensive. Interests cover urban phenomena from housing and mobility to ethnic minorities and social differentiation. Both qualitative and quantitative methods as well as geoinformatics are used in urban geographical research. The research topics greatly depend on interests of the professors, lecturers and Ph.D.students and other researchers working at the department. Urban geographical research is also closely linked to Urban Economics and Planning Geography.

Urban geographical research activities are carried out partly independently and partly as a member of wider research projects. The researchers in Urban Geography are involved in several research projects both at the national and the international level. These projects are many times multidisciplinary with partners from other departments, universities, and companies from Finland and abroad. The results are frequently published e.g. international and national journals or in publication series of journals of governmental and research institutions.

Some research projects are listed below. More information can be found from the staff members own web pages.
