Teaching

  • Structural geology
  • Field geology
  • 3D-visualisation and modelling

Research interests

  • 4D behaviour of shear zones during orogenesis
  • Mid-crustal flow and associated processes within orogenies
  • Filtering and processing seismic reflection data for structural geology research purposes
  • Problems with applying end-member models to the interpretation of geological data
  • I am also developing an interest in the application of structural geology methods in soft-sediment deformation

Latest and active projects

  • New evidence for Early Cretaceous volcanism in the Porcupine Basin, west of Ireland. Investigating an extensional sedimentary basin using seismic reflection data combined with tectonic, structural and thermomechanical principles.
  • The architecture of weakened orogenic mid-crust based on deep seismic reflection data, S Finland. Investigating large-scale deformation processes in the mid-crust using seismic reflection data.
  • Do experts use idealized structural models? Usage of (ideal) end-member models in structural geological interpretation, and possible problems arising from that.
  • Shear zones in southern Finland: syn- and late-orogenic development of southern and southwestern Finland.
  • 4D-structural investigation of the Olkiluoto nuclear waste deposition site.
