The Department of Geosciences and Geography is a multidisciplinary unit honoring both natural and social sciences. The current research activities are grouped into seven broad fields of research related to biotic and abiotic processes in nature and life history, as well as to population, culture, housing, economy, natural resources, the state of the environment and its change detection and monitoring in all spatial and temporal scales.
The Department of Geosciences and Geography maintains up-to-date laboratories, monitoring station network and a research station. In addition to these facilities, the research activities are based on broad cooperation in national and international research and monitoring networks. The Department also actively engages with social debate and decision-making through high quality basic research and scientific expertise.
Graduate schools are an integral part of the development of research activities in the Department. There are currently five graduate schools available, of which the National Graduate School in Geology is coordinated by the Department itself.
