About Gender Studies

Christina Institute for Women's Studies was founded in 1991. At that time its role was, first and foremost, to promote women's studies at the University of Helsinki and to coordinate instruction as well as provide premises and equipment for researchers and research projects in the field of women's studies.

In 2003 Christina Institute launched its master's program in Gender studies, as well as the graduate program.

At the beginning of 2010 Christina institute merged into the Department of Philosophy, History, Culture and Art Studies.
