Development of Teaching

Development of Teaching

Teaching in the department is of a high quality and it is research-oriented. Researchers working on research projects are engaged in teaching, and the teaching schedule enables teaching staff to have research periods. The expertise of doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers is used in teaching and in supervising theses. Undergraduate students are informed of the research carried out in the department during their basic studies and they participate in the department’s research projects. The relationship between research and teaching is continually being reinforced.

Teaching is continuously developed through cooperation involving teachers, researchers, administrative staff  and students. The department’s working group for the development of teaching will start work in 2010 (more information is available on the Alma intranet). In addition, the department will establish other working groups to develop teaching if necessary (e.g. groups specific to degree programmes).

The aim is also to strengthen cooperation between students and teachers by jointly seeking new, alternative ways to develop and plan teaching. The department’s staff and students will be engaged in wide-ranging debate and will share ideas on issues such as educational solutions, common practices and other practical matters. The key forum will be the joint biennial teaching development seminar for the department’s students and staff.

The department will also have a working group for the development of postgraduate studies.
