The purpose of the University of Helsinki Funds is to support research, teaching and students at the University of Helsinki .

The University of Helsinki Funds consist of nearly 160 private funds founded by our alumni, friends and other supporters. The earliest fund goes back as far as 1745. These donations and bequests enable the University to award scholarships and grants for our talented researchers and students.

The university centrally invests these funds responsibly and profitably and guarantees a 5-7% annual return to each fund. In total the University of Helsinki Funds administrates 36 million euros of donated funds (as of December 31st 2008).

Several professorships at the University of Helsinki are funded by donations. Scholarships and grants based on donations are awarded yearly by the administrative committees of the funds.
