The University of Helsinki Master’s Degree Programme in European Studies is a two-year specialisation programme (120 ECTS) designed to offer the graduate with a profound understanding of Europe in all of its historical, political and cultural diversity.

The programme is multidisciplinary in its aims and scope. It approches European Studies through the thematic framework of Time, Space and Politics. The students of the programme are enrolled in and choose their major subject from one of the following four departments:

  • History (major subject: general history; degree awarded: Master of Arts)
  • Geography (geography; Master of Science)
  • Social Science History (political history or economic and social history; Master of Social Sciences)
  • Political Science (politics or administration and organisations; Master of Social Sciences).

The Departments involved in the programme are rated among the best in Europe and beyond, thus providing students with most up-to-date teaching and supervision.

The University of Helsinki Network for European Studies (NES) is responsible for the practical organisation of the Master’s Degree Programme. NES’s main task is to coordinate research and study programmes in various fields of European Studies within the University and thus to enhance  multidisciplinary research and teaching.
  
The language of the programme is English. The programme is intended for full-time students.

The programme is coordinated by the University's Network for European Studies.
