Permission to defend a dissertation at a public examination

The Faculty Council decides whether to give a doctoral candidate permission to defend his or her dissertation at a public examination after receiving the statements from the pre-examiners of the dissertation.
Doctoral candidates must see to it that the dissertation is available to the public either as a printed copy or in another format at least ten days before the public examination. It is possible to shorten this time to a minimum of five days upon written application to the Dean of the Faculty. Applications addressed to the Dean must be emailed to sci-office(at)helsinki.fi.
The Faculty provides all relevant information about the public examination in the letter sent to those doctoral candidates who are granted permission to defend their dissertation at a public examination.
