Who can apply for postgraduate studies?
The Faculty of Science at the University of Helsinki may admit the following candidates to pursue the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Licentiate of Philosophy:
- Holders of a Master’s degree in the natural sciences from a Finnish university or holders of an equivalent degree from a foreign university, or
- Holders of a Finnish or foreign degree equivalent to a Master’s degree whom the Faculty of Science deems to be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies.
The right to pursue a postgraduate degree may be granted on the condition that the applicant’s postgraduate study plan has been approved by the departmental postgraduate studies committee. The selection criteria include the standard of the basic degree, the feasibility of the research plan and study plan, as well as the availability of supervision.
