Acceptance
All students, also exchange students, are accepted by one of the faculties of the University of Helsinki. Your home university has nominated you for student exchange, but the faculty of University of Helsinki makes the final acceptance decision.
- You will be accepted if you fulfil the requirements for exchange students of the faculty concerned
- The Faculty will send you the Acceptance Letter by e-mail or in some cases also by regular post (usually in mid-June or early December). Faculty contact information.
- Exception: The International Student Mobility Services will also send the Acceptance letter to you:
- If you are a University bilateral agreement exchange student (not Socrates/Erasmus)
- If you are an ISEP – exchange student
- It is very important that you should notify the International Student Services (not only the faculty) immediately, if there is a change in your period of stay or if you need to cancel your exchange.
Scholarships
- The exchange students will receive information on scholarships from their home university co-ordinator. The home university or home country pays a scholarship for Erasmus and Nordplus students.
- The University of Helsinki offers some financial benefits for some incoming exchange students
(based on the university bilateral agreements)
- In few university bilateral exchange agreements and ISEP program there are some financial benefits offered by the University of Helsinki.
- If there are any financial benefits, it is mentioned on the Acceptance letter sent to you by the International Student Mobility Services.
Housing and Housing Offer
- Housing situation in Helsinki is difficult. It is important that you apply for housing as soon as possible. The International Exchange Services can't guarantee housing for all exchange students.
- IMPORTANT: Housing for Fixed-Period and fixed period housing agreements can’t be changed.
- Housing Offer: you will receive a housing offer when the housing has been reserved - Read all information on the housing offer carefully and act accordingly!

Arrival dates:
- August 30 - September 1, 2010
- January 4-5 and January 7, 2011
- Some dormitories are available only from late afternoon on September 1. More information on arrival website.
