Arriving in Helsinki

Helsinki can easily be reached from anywhere in the world. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is the main airport of the Helsinki metropolitan region and the whole Finland. The airport is situated 19 kilometers from the centre of Helsinki.

Airport transportation

The public transportation operator serves the route Airport – Helsinki City Center with a bus number 615. The bus departs from the International Flights Terminal platform 21. The journey takes about 35 minutes and costs 4 € (regional ticket). The terminus is Helsinki Central Railway Station.

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is also served by Finnair City busses with connections to the centre of Helsinki every 20 minutes.The bus departs from the International Fights Terminal platform 10. The journey takes about 30 minutes and costs 5.90 € More information about the Finnair City Bus is available here.

Taxis are always available at the airport. The fare to the city will vary depending on time of day, number of passengers and distance, but the base price goes from 20 to 30 €. It is also possible to order special Airport Taxis (yellow minibuses), which are shared by several passengers and therefore considerably cheaper than regular taxis. The price depends on the total number on passengers going to the same destination. Taxis can be ordered at the company’s service point at the airport.

Public transportation

All of the ESIL-ASIL conference venues are situated in the city centre within a walking distance. However, some of the sights are along the way of the tram, bus or a ferry route. Public transport is easy to use in Helsinki, even if you're not familiar with the city.

In public transportation system you can travel with single tickets (Helsinki internal or regional) or with a tourist ticket (Helsinki internal or regional). Single tickets can be purchased from the driver and from ticket machines. Helsinki internal ticket costs 2.20 € from the driver and 2 € from the machine.

Tourist Ticket is available for unlimited use on public transportation (metro, train, tram, bus, ferry service) for 1, 3, 5 days and costs from 6 to 18 €. Paper Tourist Tickects (are valid from the moment of purchase) can be purchased from various places e.g. ticket machines, drivers and conductors. Prepaid Tourist Tickets (valid from the time they are first used) are sold e.g. Helsinki City Transport service point in the Central Railway Station.
