Star restaurants 2007
Three restaurants in Helsinki have been awarded Michelin stars.
Three Helsinki restaurants had the honour of being included in the 2007 Michelin Guide, which for over a century has told European gourmets where to seek good food and a fine atmosphere.
Chez Dominique in Ludviginkatu received two stars. The chef de cuisine is Hans Välimäki, who is also well known from cooking programmes in TV.
G.W. Sundsmans in Eteläranta and Demo in Uudenmaankatu both received one star.
A one-star restaurant is "a very good restaurant in its category". A two-star restaurant is "worth a detour", while a three-star restaurant is classified as one of the best in the country and "is worthy of a special journey".
For comparison's sake, it should be mentioned that in addition to Chez Dominique, there are only two other two-star Michelin restaurants in the whole of Scandinavia.
The so-called Bib Gourmand recognition for good quality food at moderate prices was awarded to two restaurants in Helsinki: Serata and Olo Restaurant & Bar.

Restaurant Demo took Finnish restaurant scheme in 2003. Demo is a stylish fusion restaurant and it's also a favourite among the restaurant professionals in Helsinki.The place was founded by two young chefs that had experience from several top-notch kitchens in Finland.

In the proximity of Market Square, the C.L. Engel-designed 19th century Empire house has views over Market Square and has beautiful frescoes and tiled stoves. The food prepared by the kitchen staff under the baton of chef de cuisine Jarmo Vähäsavo represents light contemporary Finnish cuisine. It is prepared using the best raw materials and emphasises their natural taste.
